Psychological Evaluations for Asylum

Helping asylum seekers establish proof of fear of persecution.

You're worried about being deported because your life was in danger in your country of origin. Your attorney recommended a psychological evaluation for your case, but you wonder if it'll actually make a difference, and you're worried about seeing a therapist because you're afraid of opening up the pain.

While a psychological evaluation for your immigration case doesn't guarantee a favorable legal outcome, it is designed to address specific legal questions related to your case that your attorney alone can't answer.

You'll feel better knowing you followed your attorney's recommendation and did everything possible to support your case. You may also find the process of completing a psychological evaluation helpful in understanding what you've been through so you can begin the process of healing.

Hi, I'm Daisy (she/her).

I'm a trauma therapist, and I specialize in conducting psychological evaluations for immigration cases.

I work with immigrants, victims of crime and abuse, and LGBTQIA+ folks.

The Trauma-Informed Approach

A trauma-informed evaluation captures the deep and lasting psychological impact of the fear you've been through.

When I conduct psychological evaluations for asylum, I start by reviewing your identification documents and establishing your preferred name and pronouns. I'll ask you about the events that led you to flee your country. I'll document what you say and assess the impact these events have had on your emotional and psychological well-being. This will be difficult to talk about, but I will help you get back to feelings of safety in your body if you become overwhelmed or start to feel numb.

I'll also need to gather any other records relevant to your case. I'll then write up a comprehensive report addressing the specific legal issues or questions related to your asylum case. This written report will then be used by your lawyer in your court proceedings.
