Psychological Evaluations for Extreme Hardship Waivers and Cancellation of Removal

Helping Immigrant Families Stay Together

You're worried about how much your family members would suffer medically, socially, or financially if you were to be deported. Your attorney recommended a psychological evaluation for your case but you wonder if it'll actually make a difference, and you're worried about seeing a therapist because you've never been to one before.

While a mental health evaluation for your immigration case doesn't guarantee a favorable legal outcome, it is designed to address specific legal questions related to your case that your attorney alone can’t answer.

You'll feel better knowing you followed your attorney's recommendation and did everything possible to support your case.

Hi, I'm Daisy (she/her).

I'm a trauma therapist, and I specialize in conducting psychological evaluations for immigration cases.

I work with immigrants and their families, including children.

The Trauma-Informed Approach

A trauma-informed and family-systems evaluation captures the deep psychological and cumulative impact family separation or relocation might have on your qualifying family members, especially minors.

When I conduct mental health evaluations, I start by first identifying who I need to talk to. For adults, I ask about any history of medical or mental health diagnoses, any military service, and other relevant social and familial factors. For children, I use a lot of art and play as children process their experiences best through play and creativity.

I'll also need to gather any relevant medical or school records. I'll then write up a comprehensive report addressing the specific legal issues or questions related to your immigration case. This written report will then be used by your lawyer in your immigration court proceedings.

Step 5

We'll meet again for another 2-3 hours to complete any assessment measures or psychological testing.
